the wind in the leaves collective
Where poetry becomes movement.
Where movement becomes resistance.
Where resistance becomes art.
Announcing our 2026/27
Season of Programming
Going on 16 years of creating dance theatre, curating
genre-pushing performances and prioritizing underserved communities and cultures, wind in the leaves collective is ecstatic to announce another year of diverse programming!
Our Purpose
We preserve artistic traditions brought to Canada by diverse communities, while nurturing new creative expressions for today and tomorrow.
Bold work, rooted in the African diaspora.
Performances that take risks and push boundaries.
Our Mission
We bring together accomplished artists from diverse backgrounds to create boundary-pushing performances that reflect multiple artistic traditions.
Our performances engage audiences on every level—visceral, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual—provoking critical thought while nurturing imagination.
Through community programs, we expand arts access in underserved areas and support cultural literacy and creative expression in schools.
Our Values
We are vision-led and audience-focused.
We believe in art's power to transform.
We practice inclusivity in everything we do.
Our Roots
The wind in the leaves collective draws on the legacy of the Black Arts Movement—its centering of Black voices, its fusion of art and activism, and its commitment to community.
We honour that tradition by creating work that's unapologetically rooted in the African diaspora and refuses to compromise artistic vision.
What we do

In the Community
We expand arts access in underserved areas and support cultural literacy and creative expression in schools through workshops and community programs.
Presenting & Partnerships
We create platforms for IBPOC artists through our Allies & Friends series, Mallo Nights performances, and the IBPOC Artists’ Touring Network—building infrastructure for the next generation.
